Slice of life manga about a woman named Sazae and her family. In the gloomy years following Japan's defeat in WWII, when life was marked by food shortages and grim living conditions, the Sazae-san manga brought a much-needed ray of sunshine and laughter into Japanese homes. The secret of the strip's success lies both in in its cheerful if scatterbrained heroine, Sazae, and her very ordinary family.they allow the Japanese to share in the gentle jokes centering on the humdrum events of day-to-day living. The manga offers a rare glimpse into the daily life of the average family of these times, together with insights into the cultural customs and events that mark their lives.
